We only hire car seats that are approved for use in New Zealand.

Instructions can be found on the seat or seek professional advice.

We take no liability for incorrectly installed seats.

(Explanation as to why and full description)

Yes, you can be held liable for incorrect car seat installations if they cause damage, as you have a legal obligation to provide services with “reasonable care and skill” under consumer protection laws. Providing incorrect installation advice, especially if it leads to an unsafe install, could be seen as not meeting this standard, making you liable for any damages or injuries that result.
Responsibilities when providing advice or services
  • Act with reasonable care and skill: Any advice you give or work you do must be at the standard of a competent person in that field.
  • Ensure the service is fit for purpose: You must make sure the car seat is installed correctly for its intended purpose (child safety).
  • Be responsible for the outcome: If a customer follows your advice and the installation is incorrect and causes damage, you could be held responsible for those damages and any other losses.
How to protect yourself (Our Business)
  • Do not give installation advice: A safer option is to decline giving installation advice and only offer to rent the car seat itself. (What We DO!)
  • Ensure the customer accepts responsibility: If you do give advice, it is crucial to get a written acknowledgment from the customer that they are responsible for the installation and that you are not liable for any issues that may arise from it.
  • Stay informed: Keep up-to-date with the latest car seat installation standards and best practices to provide accurate and safe information.
